Are you looking for a great way to meet people and get involved? Student senate is what you have been looking for! The Student Senate at GCC is actively involved in a variety of activities that enhance the college experience for all students. They plan and lead a range of educational and social events. The Senate also partakes in governance activities, such as holding forums where students can voice concerns and work closely with college administrators to address student concerns.
Here are the positions we are looking to fill for the 2024-2025 semesters:
President
Leads the senate, sets the agenda for meetings, and represents the student body in discussions with school administrators.
- Must be a Sophomore (28+ earned credits at GCC or transferred into GCC)
- Serves 2 consecutive semesters (Fall & Spring)
Vice President
Assists the president and often takes over their duties in their absence. May also handle specific committees or issues.
- Must be a Sophomore (28+ earned credits at GCC or transferred into GCC)
- Serves 2 consecutive semesters (Fall & Spring)
Registrar
Responsible for taking minutes during meetings, maintaining records, and handling correspondence.
- May be a Freshman or Sophomore.
- Serves 2 consecutive semesters (Fall & Spring)
Treasurer
Manages the budget of the student senate, oversees funding for activities and reports on financial matters to the senate.
- May be a Freshman or Sophomore.
- Serves 2 consecutive semesters (Fall & Spring)
Public Relations Officer
Manages communications between the senate and the student body, including social media, newsletters, and press releases.
- May be a Freshman or Sophomore.
- Serves 2 consecutive semesters (Fall & Spring)
2 Freshman Representatives
Member elected to represent the interests of the Freshman student body. Will propose, debate, and vote on policies and initiatives.
- Must be a Freshman (27 or less earned credits at GCC or prev. institution)
- Serves 2 consecutive semesters (Fall & Spring)
2 Sophomore Representatives
Member elected to represent the interests of the Sophomore Student body. Will propose, debate, and vote on policies and initiatives.
- Must be a Sophomore (28+ earned credits at GCC or transferred into GCC)
- Serves 2 consecutive semesters (Fall & Spring)
