Lab Science Technician Program Overview

Overview

The Lab Science Technician program prepares graduates for entry-level technician work in various laboratory settings. Students will learn to safely apply standard laboratory practices in conducting procedures related to sample preparation, chemical and biological analyses, and equipment operation and maintenance. Students will also develop technical and professional skills related to interpreting and reporting experimental results. Instruction in computer science and applications will provide graduates with a firm foundation from which to grow and be successful in high-tech environments.

Unique Features

Lab Science Technicians have cross-disciplinary skills transferable between sectors, including quality control and testing, research and development, agriculture and agribusiness, environmental science, biotechnology, forensics, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, cosmetics and personal care, and more. Regional employers are committed to providing internships and/or project-based learning opportunities to enhance students' practical skills and increase employability upon graduation.

The Lab Science Technician Certificate Degree Program provides an engaging, hands-on education that prepares diverse learners for successful careers in laboratory settings. By focusing on real-world applications that combine fundamental scientific knowledge with practical laboratory skills, cross-disciplinary STEM competencies, and professionalism, the program fosters scientific and technical literacy so graduates are prepared to excel in entry-level technician roles and contribute to the region’s future growth.
