ENG 231 (3 credits) - Reading Short Fiction - This course will examine the genre of the short story, especially its traditional and innovative narrative techniques, its various ways of constructing authorial point of view, and its mode of plot compression. In this investigation into the creation, understanding, and audience of short fiction, students will discuss and analyze short fiction - its components, appeals, and conventions. Subjective interpretation from class members will be paired with academic literary analyses, critical essays, and exercises in critical analysis. No text required. |
