A student’s residency classification is set during the admissions process based on information provided on the student’s admission application. GCC’s Residency Requirements.

 

 GCC RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

Students who are not citizens of the United States of America will be classified as international.Residency Status Information
      • Time spent at GCC as a student does not count toward the four (4) consecutive months needed for residency.
      • It is the student’s responsibility prior to registration to inform the Vice President of Student Services Office of any change in residence or status that would affect his/her classification as a resident.

GCC RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

A student’s residency classification is established when admitted to Gogebic Community College.

A district resident is a legal resident of Gogebic County. A legal resident is one whose permanent, primary residence or domicile is where s/he intends to return whenever absent from college. A dormitory/suite, apartment, or house rented only during college enrollment is not a permanent primary residence. Applicants meeting one or more of the following conditions at the time of admission will be classified with in-district residence:

      • The applicant is a minor who lives with his/her parent or legal guardian provided that the parent or legal guardian has resided within Gogebic County for at least four (4) consecutive months immediately prior to the first day of the semester in which the applicant plans to enroll.
      • The applicant is at least 18 years of age at the time of registration in the institution and has resided in Gogebic County at least (4) consecutive months immediately prior to the first day of the semester without being registered at a college or university during that period.
      • The applicant is an employee of a business or industrial firm within Gogebic County, and the employer, by written agreement, agrees to pay directly to the college all tuition and/or fees of the sponsored student for employer-approved classes.
      • The applicant is an eligible non-citizen who has filed Declaration of Intention to become a citizen of the United States and who otherwise meets the residence requirements of the district.

Course specific fees are assessed to students taking classes that require special equipment, consumables, supplies or extraordinary overhead.

In-District tuition credit hour rate of $144. Maximum 3 credits per semester.

$20 per class

FEES EXPLAINED

The Facility Fee is assessed for all registered students. This fee supports the maintenance of campus facilities, upgrading the learning environments, technology infrastructure, equipment, and support of day-to-day operations.
The Information Technology Fee is assessed for all registered students. This fee supports services that directly benefit students, such as internet access, e-mail, help services, software, computer labs, library resources and wireless networks.

The Institutional Fee is assessed to all registered students. This fee covers all student record related services, general operations of registration, transcripts, schedule changes, grade reporting, and graduation audits.

The Student Services Fee is assessed for students registered for 6 or more credits hours. This fee supports a broad range of educational services for students including career and academic support, student activities, and recreational activities offered through the Copper Country Center, Linquist Center and Mt. Zion.
The Excess Contact Hour Fee is assessed when a course meets for more hours than those generally reflected by the credit hours associated with that course, “additional or excess contact” exists between the instructor and the student. In these situations, an excess contact hour fee is assessed for the course as a reflection of the additional cost associated with providing this additional instructional time. which require additional instructional support.

The Online Education Fee is assessed for courses offered with no scheduled in classroom or on-site activities where the course instruction occurs via technology. The fee offsets virtual college costs such as multimedia servers, bandwidth costs, licensing fees and instructional technology software.

Laboratory and course fees are assessed for specific instructional costs beyond those covered by tuition. Laboratory and course fees are used for expenses directly related to a student’s participation in a course. These expenses included consumables, course related field work/travel expenses for students, course specific software and equipment, repair and maintenance of course specific equipment.

The Directed Study Fee is assessed when a catalog course is delivered on an individual basis when the course is not offered in a given term. Directed study courses are approved under extenuating circumstances to provide an opportunity to complete a required course.

The Credit by Exam Fee is assessed when a regularly enrolled student with approval receives credit in a course by demonstrating that they have acquired sufficient knowledge of a subject without formal enrollment in a course or study in the classroom.

 

Financial Aid Cost of Attendance

The Financial Aid Office establishes a standard cost of attendance budget to calculate your estimated educational costs. This represents typical costs for students during the nine-month academic year based on anticipated enrollment, dependency status, and living arrangements (on-campus, off-campus or with parents). Your actual costs may vary depending on your course load, housing arrangements, course fees, and individual circumstances.
