Emergency Medical Services (MFR, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic)

The Gogebic Community College Emergency Medical System Program offers:

  • Medical First Responders (MFR)
  • Industrial First Aid (IFA)
  • EMT Basic
  • Advanced EMT
  • Paramedics
  • RN to EMT
  • CEU Opportunities

All sessions are offered in Ironwood at the Gogebic Community College Campus in room A326.

Students must be up to date on immunizations and pass a criminal background check prior to entering clinical areas. Completion of a course does not guarantee eligibility for state examination. Past criminal conviction may interfere with eligibility. The student is responsible for assuring eligibility for testing, and should contact the Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry Services at (517) 241-3018 with questions.

CED 457 RN to EMT

RN to EMT Course - 64 hours 

This course provides theory, laboratory, and clinical training and prepares the RN to tailor their training to work in an emergency medical situation. Students learn how to stabilize and safely transport patients needing emergency services. Students will learn how to use a wide variety of skills and equipment and also learn how to provide safe, quality care in the current healthcare environment
 

PRE-REQUISITES:

18 years of age (or be 18 prior to licensing exam) – State Minimum Requirement and current unencumbered RN license.

  • Students without up to date immunizations may incur additional costs to meet requirements.
  • After passing the course, students will be eligible to sit for the National Registry Exam and will pay the fee for the exam as an additional cost. (The Registry Exam fee is currently $98)

CED 460 Medical first responder

Medical First Responder Course - 64 hours 

Medical First Responders provide immediate lifesaving care to critical patients who access the emergency medical services system. EMRs have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide immediate lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS resources to arrive. Includes Books, Background Check, and Scrubs.

Successful completion of this course allows students who are eligible to apply to the National Registry to take the licensure exam for MFR/EMR.

PRE-REQUISITES:

18 years of age (or be 18 prior to licensing exam) – State Minimum Requirement

CED 471 EMT Basic

Emergency Medical Technician Basic Course - 252 hours  - October Start Date!

This course provides theory, laboratory, and clinical training and prepares students to stabilize and safely transport patients needing emergency services. Students will learn how to use a wide variety of skills and equipment and also learn how to provide safe, quality care in the current healthcare environment. 

Successful completion of this course allows students who are eligible to apply to the National Registry to take the licensure exam for EMT Basic.
