Emergency Medical Services (MFR, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic)

This course provides theory, laboratory, and clinical training and prepares students to stabilize and safely transport patients needing emergency services. Students will learn how to use a wide variety of skills and equipment and also learn how to provide safe, quality care in the current healthcare environment.

All sessions are offered in Ironwood at the Gogebic Community College Campus in room A326.
Students must be up to date on immunizations and pass a criminal background check prior to entering clinical areas. Completion of a course does not guarantee eligibility for state examination. Past criminal conviction may interfere with eligibility. The student is responsible for assuring eligibility for testing, and should contact the Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry Services at (517) 241-3018 with questions.

CED 460 Medical first responder
Medical First Responder Course - 60 hours
Successful completion of this course allows students who are eligible to apply to the National Registry to take the licensure exam for MFR/EMR.
PRE-REQUISITES:
18 years of age (or be 18 prior to licensing exam) – State Minimum Requirement

CED 471 EMT Basic
Emergency Medical Technician Basic Course - 252 hours
This course provides theory, laboratory, and clinical training and prepares students to stabilize and safely transport patients needing emergency services. Students will learn how to use a wide variety of skills and equipment and also learn how to provide safe, quality care in the current healthcare environment.
Successful completion of this course allows students who are eligible to apply to the National Registry to take the licensure exam for EMT Basic.

CED 463 ADVANCED EMT
Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Course - 84 hours
Start an exciting career in Emergency Medical Services through programs at GCC. Learn how to navigate the fast pace of emergency response and care for patients in critical situations through classroom instruction and hands-on practice.
The Advanced EMT program builds on the EMT’s foundation and prepares students to provide
the student with the foundation needed to function as an AEMT in Michigan.
You will learn about airway management, cardiovascular emergencies, emergency medication
administration, advanced assessment, and how to provide patient care and transportation.
Clinical opportunities include ER and hospital rotations and pre-hospital clinical
opportunities throughout the region.
PRE-REQUISITES:
- 18 years of age (or be 18 prior to licensing exam) – State Minimum Requirement
- Current EMT License & 1 year of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician
