Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

  1. Have a complete Financial Aid Application (FAFSA and all supporting documents).
  2. Be approved for Federal Work Study (FWS) on your Financial Aid Notification.
  3. Complete and submit the Federal Work Study Application.
  4. Once your application is reviewed, the Financial Aid Office will notify you using your GCC email.
  5. Be in good academic standing.

Ironwood Campus Positions

Gogebic Community College is seeking students for a part-time position in the ACES Center as a Student Tutor.

This position pays $13.00 per hour and may provide up to 5 hours per week.

Job Description:

  • Tutoring serves GCC students by assisting with academic success strategies. The primary responsibilities of a tutor is to support students (tutees) to become more independent learners, persist in college, and reach their goals. Tutors provide individual and/or group tutoring to students across a broad range of courses based on their personal area of expertise. Tutors meet with students to clarify and review concepts taught in class, explain processes, and help students solve specific problems. Tutoring supports classroom-centered activities, and as such, the emphasis and content of the tutoring sessions is determined by the student’s needs.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Provide subject-specific content to help students through drop-in assistance
    • Support students to become more confident, more successful, self-directed learners
    • Recognize the different learning styles and student preferences
    • Utilize listening and questioning strategies as the primary tutoring method to diagnose student needs and monitor progress.
    • Be direct and kind with students at the same time
    • Provide direct assistance in the use of equipment, learning objects, and materials needed for student success
    • Make appropriate referrals to other campus and community resources as needed

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Referral by faculty - typically requires a grade of B+ or higher in subject area looking to tutor

  • Help with Automotive shop duties, including setting up tools for teaching, tool storage locker prep, cleaning shop areas, painting the floor in new tool crib, general labor in automotive shop.

Gogebic Community College is seeking students for a part-time position in the Marketing Department as a Student Marketing Intern.

This position pays $13.00 per hour and may provide up to 5 hours per week.

Job Description:

  • Will support the college’s Marketing and Communications team in promoting campus events, programs, and student resources.
  • Responsibilities include creating content for social media, assisting with digital and print campaigns, promotional materials, conducting peer outreach, and helping to gather student testimonials.
  • The intern will also assist in minimal event planning and photography.
  • This position can be flexible with on-campus and remote work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with various social media platforms, experience working with Canva, attention to detail, and strong communication and writing skills.

Gogebic Community College is seeking students for a part-time position in the Marketing Department as the Mascot Athlete and Spotter.

This position pays $13.00 per hour and hours may vary per week.

Job Description:

  • Students will be required to wear the GCC mascot costume and perform at different events at the college and in the community. This will include meet-and-greet events with the public and halftime performances at GCC sporting events.
  • Students will also double as a spotter to the student wearing the mascot costume. Both the student wearing the mascot and working as the spotter will perform duties outlined by the marketing department and act in accordance with the mascot training guidelines provided.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Physically able to perform cardio activity for 30 minutes.

Gogebic Community College is seeking students for a part-time position in the Athletics Department as the General Athletic Worker.

This position pays $13.00 per hour and may provide up to 5 hours per week.

Job Description:

  • We are looking for reliable and enthusiastic individuals to work as athletic game day workers at our sporting events. As a game day worker, you will play an essential role in ensuring that our events run smoothly and that the fans have a great experience.
  • Responsibilities: Assist in setting up and breaking down equipment and signage before and after game day events. Help with traffic control. Assist with ticket taking and scanning at event entrances. Potentially Line Judge Volleyball Games (White Shirt and Black Pants Required)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Student at GCC Ability to communicate effectively and work well in a team environment.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, and weekends.
  • Previous experience in customer service or event management is a plus.

Gogebic Community College is seeking students for a part-time position in the Lindquist Center as the Lindquist Welcome Center Desk/GCC Outfitters Assistant.

This position pays $13.00 per hour and may provide up to 5 hours per week.

Job Description:

  • Workers will greet everyone who comes in and exits the building as well as answer questions and refer people to the necessary locations. Every hour on the hour, the worker is required to do rounds, checking the weight room, walking track, gym, and Esports room to make sure everyone is safe and so they know who is on the premises. When checking the weight room, they use wet wipes to wipe down benches and put away any weights that may be laying on benches or the floor. They also oversee Outfitters, helping students check out and check in equipment as well as the food pantry.

Gogebic Community College is seeking students for a part-time position in the Copper Country Center Main office as an Office Assistant.

This position pays $13.00 per hour and may provide up to 5 hours per week.

Job Description:

  • The Federal Work Study will check copier paper, fill and restock supply; empty bottle recycling and returnable bins, return cans; Clean classroom whiteboards, wipe down computers, booths, microwaves, refrigerators, etc.; shred confidential papers; restock pamphlets and papers on our displays; assist in putting away supply orders; create notices and help with event setup; make copies & scan documents; check if restrooms need toilet tissue, paper towel or soap; clean and tidy up instructor desks, student lounge and student study; make sure computer lab, student lounge and student study is stocked with printer paper; restock classrooms with dry erase markers and board cleaner; remove outdated postings on bulletin boards; other duties and special projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Organized, friendly and outgoing person with basic computer skills.

Job Description:

  • Monitor and organize Nursing lab space during open study hours.
  • Potential for peer tutoring depending on student performance and enrollment at 1st or 2nd year level per qualifications at time of hire.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled as a nursing student.
  • Second year nursing student preferred so may act as a peer tutor and answer questions related to skills and studies.
  • First year student may be placed in this position, but strictly as a monitor and organization personnel, with potential for being an information resource based on student performance.

Gogebic Community College is seeking students for a part-time position in the Copper Country Center as the Writing Consultant.

This position pays $13.00 per hour and may provide up to 5 hours per week.

Job Description:

  • The Student Writing Consultant will tutor and assist GCC Copper Country Center students with composition, grammar, syntax, and other aspects of writing for essays, research papers, and other written assignments for any GCC courses.
  • This position will work with students both face-to-face and virtually from an assigned office space at the Copper Country Center in Houghton, MI.
  • The working hours for this position are flexible to fit into one's schedule, but they must be consistent throughout the semester.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Prior completion of ENG 101 and ENG 102 with a B or higher
  • Ability to identify errors in English composition, grammar, and syntax. This shall be demonstrated through review of a sample writing as part of the application process.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to provide feedback in a professional and cordial manner
  • Basic understanding of videoconferencing and other relevant computer applications
