Purchasing Books Using Financial Aid
If you receive financial aid, you may be eligible to use it to purchase books through the GCC Virtual Bookstore
- You must be registered and have a financial aid package for the correct aid year.
- The amount of your pending financial aid must exceed your total tuition and fee charges for the semester.
- By charging your books and supplies to your student account, you are agreeing to limit your purchases to books and educationally related supplies. Allowable purchase can include textbooks and supplies, one bookbag per academic year, software required for class, required uniforms, required tools and one calculator per academic. Items not approved for purchase with financial aid funds include, but are not limited to apparel, food, candy, beverages, gift items and prepaid cards.
- If the cost of your books and supplies is higher than your excess financial aid funds, you are responsible for paying the difference.
- You are not required to purchase books through the GCC Virtual Bookstore. If eligible, your expense check will reimburse you for book costs if you decide to purchase your books through another source.
- Book purchase begins approximately two weeks prior to the start of each semester and ends one week prior to the terms financial aid disbursement date.
- Students who establish their eligibility for book purchase less than one month in advance may experience delays and will be served on a first-come, first-served basis.
- To use financial aid as payment the amount of your authorized financial aid must exceed your total tuition and fee charges for the semester.

- The amount of bookstore credit depends on the financial aid funds available to you. This amount can vary by student. If you have questions, check with the Financial Aid Office before charging books to your student account.
- Book purchases will result in an increase in your student bill. When financial aid funds are disbursed after the census date the book charges will be paid by your financial aid, along with your tuition and fees balance. The remaining credit balance refund, if applicable will be deposited to your selected refund preference.
