Ski Lift Maintenance Program
Ski Lift Maintenance Technology Program
The Ski Area Management Program at Gogebic Community will be offering its continuing education program in Lift Maintenance starting May 13th and running thru may 31st, 2019. This program offers the opportunity for Ski Area Lift Maintenance employees to develop the skills necessary for the completion of their job responsibilities. As it has become more difficult to find good Lift Maintenance people in our industry it is imperative that we invest in those employees that have a love for our industry.
This program will be offered in three consecutive parts or years. Year one, Apprentice level will focus on the basic skills. Primarily low voltage electricity and relay logic, A.C. and D.C. theory, seals and bearings, basic wire rope rigging, and a understanding of the ANSI and state standards rules and regulations. Year two, Master Tech 1 we continue from year one but add in Drives and PLC technology, gear reducers and maintenance, braking systems and hydraulics. In year three, Master Tech 2 we cover advanced electrical controls, PLC programing, wire rope identification and inspection and surveying for lifts. The previous topics are the major break downs for the program and if there are any specific needs we will make every effort to cover them as well.
The successful participant in this program will:
Improve lift maintenance skills through pertinent technical classroom training backed up with practical hands-on laboratory experience.
Become more effective and efficient in their job performance by a better understanding of how ski lift systems operate.
Enhance their safety awareness and improve their overall operational reliability.
Receive Gogebic Community College Certificate of Occupational Proficiency as they complete each phase of training and provide the Ski Area with documentation of training and continuing education.
If you have an individual with experience the can star at year two but we would need to have a discussion on their experience.
These intense three week courses will utilize Gogebic’s training facilities and resources. On campus lodging will be available in our college suites that are set up as extended stay units. The course fees will be $1800 for the three week program and includes all training materials. Lodging in the campus suites is $500 for single occupancy for the three week program (the campus suites are set equipped with linens and bedding as well as full kitchen facilities in every suite) For more information please contact Jim Vander Spoel, Director Ski Area Management at (906) 932-4231 x 269 or (906)285- 1341, my email is email@example.com.
