Overview

Emily began instructing as adjunct faculty for GCC in 2012, teaching biology and chemistry courses, while completing her Doctorate in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at Michigan Technological University. Prior to her jump to full-time Biochemistry Instructor at the Copper Country Center in 2018, she was Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at Finlandia University and opened/operated two businesses: Craft Culture Yeast Labs, LLC and Gitchee Gumee Ciderworks, both in Hancock, MI. She specializes in Molecular Biology and Microbiology, with a focus in fermentation science; She currently works as Microbiologist for Keweenaw Brewing Company and enjoys taking students on brewery tours. 

Emily is passionate about eliminating stress in the classroom and believes strongly in on-ground (in-person) instruction and the success of her students during and after their time at GCC.

When Emily is not working, she enjoys spending time outside with her friends and family.  Her obsessive hobbies vary by season. In the summer Emily spends her time hiking, disc golfing, running, and at the beach. In the winter, she enjoys snowboarding, cross country skiing, reading, and crocheting.
