CLASSROOMS, LABORATORIES AND OFFICES
Gogebic Community College is situated at the corner of Jackson Road and Greenbush Street on the southeast slope of Mt. Zion. The principal classroom buildings are the Rutger Erickson Liberal Arts Center, the Carl Kleimola Technical Center, and the Jacob Solin Center for Business Education. The three buildings are connected by walkways on two floors and surround a courtyard. In addition to classrooms, laboratories, and faculty offices, each building houses facilities and services for instructional support and student activities. A fourth building, the David G. Lindquist Student Center, opened in the fall of 1993.
RUTGER ERICKSON LIBERAL ARTS CENTER
Classrooms and faculty offices are located on the first and third floors of the Rutger Erickson Liberal Arts Center. The college library, lecture center and general administrative offices (including the Office of the President and Dean of Business Services) are located on the second floor.
CARL KLEIMOLA TECHNICAL CENTER
Student Services Offices (including the Dean of Students), the College Bookstore and the ACES Center are located on the second floor of the Carl Kleimola Technical Center. Instructional areas for technical training occupy the remainder of the center.
JACOB SOLIN CENTER FOR BUSINESS EDUCATION
The Jacob Solin Center was formally opened during the fall of 1991. This state-of-the-art instructional facility consists of some 25,000 square feet, housing General Business and Secretarial Programs; Data Processing, Computer Literacy and Computer Science Programs; computer learning laboratories; administrative computing facilities, meeting and conference rooms; and faculty/staff offices, including the Dean of Instruction. The Solin Center's Conference and Multi-Purpose rooms and computer laboratories feature a wide array of technology ranging from large screen projection and computer applications to highly integrated computer networks. The Solin Center, like the other buildings on campus, is connected with other campus facilities by enclosed walkways .
The Lindquist Student Center, named by the Board of Trustees in recognition of Dean Emeritus Lindquist's dedication to students and higher education, is designed to provide opportunities for a balanced physical fitness education program and student social, cultural and recreational activities. Opened in the Fall of 1993, the Student Center enhances student and community life by adding a new dimension to the GCC campus. Included in the Lindquist Student Center are an 11,205 square foot gymnasium, 1/11 mile indoor walking track, aerobics area, and weight room. Other areas include the Courtside Dining Services cafeteria with meeting/banquet facilities seating over to 200, student lounge and game area, student organization offices, and a performing area.
The Lindquist Center is available for banquets, conferences, and other activities. Availability and prices may be obtained by completing the Rental Request Form.
LIBRARY/LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER
The Alex D. Chisholm Library/Learning Resources Center provides information, resources and services to support GCC's curriculum and to supplement student learning activities. Located on the second floor of the Rutger Erickson Academic Building, the library contains more than 24,000 volumes, 71 periodicals, 12 newspapers, and videos. Specialized collections include Local History and Upper Peninsula of Michigan History.
The library's collection is enhanced by active participation in UPRLC-ALS (Upper Peninsula Region of Library Cooperative-Automated Library Services) and MLC (Michigan Library Consortium). Consortial arrangements with these groups via FAX and electronic mail facilitate interlibrary loan.
The library catalog is available on-line and contains records for more than 900,000 books and periodicals from 4 academic libraries in the Upper Peninsula: Gogebic Community College, Northern Michigan University, Lake Superior State University, and Finlandia University. The library subscribes to numerous on-line databases, many of which provide full-text. Through Access Michigan, a state-wide project under the aegis of a number of organizations including the Library of Michigan, patrons also have access to FirstSearch, a collection of nearly 60 electronic indexes including several full-text databases.
Library staff provides reference, circulation, and interlibrary loan services, as well as bibliographic instruction in the use of general and specialized reference sources and indexes, CD-ROMs, on-line databases, and the Internet.
Library facilities open to students, faculty, staff, and community patrons include group and individual study areas, conference rooms, coin-operated photocopier, audiovisual equipment, computers, printers, and typewriters.
The library schedules its services to accommodate student/patron needs and academic scheduling. The library is open nearly sixty hours each week, closing during scheduled holidays and decreasing its hours during the summer term and semester breaks.

Facilities are available to the public on a fee-for-service basis, provided public use does not interfere with our instructional support mission.
Staff in the ACES Center may be able to assist students with developing course schedules, advising toward majors, and implementing techniques to manage course loads.
Peer tutors are available in most subjects to assist students with working through coursework, identifying effective learning strategies, and developing academic skills. Peer tutoring is FREE to all students! Tutor schedules are available at the beginning of each semester. Group study can be organized upon request.
Make-up testing arrangements can be made with ACES Center staff. ACES staff has designated hours to issue make-up tests, and students must receive instructors' consents to take tests at alternate times and locations. Make-up testing policies are available in the ACES Center.
Students may access computers to complete papers and projects, to check and send e-mail messages, and to surf the internet for educational purposes. Interactive learning and enrichment software, which exists on ACES computers, can help students to excel with academic subjects and serve as self-paced tutorials.

The College Bookstore is located on the second floor of the Carl Kleimola Technical Center and offers students a complete line of textbooks, instructional materials, supplies and sundries. The bookstore is open to the public from 8:30 A.M. to 12:00 PM and 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM Monday through Thursday. During registration periods, extended hours are offered.
RETURN POLICY: Students returning textbooks within the first two weeks of class will receive a full refund providing the text has not been marked or damaged in any way. All returns must be accompanied by an original receipt. Students who have charged books and wish to return them must do so prior to the last day of the registration period. All charge activity is closed after that time.
Campus Suites are available on campus. The GCC Housing Office also maintains a listing of housing opportunities available in the communities surrounding the college. The listing is updated regularly and includes brief descriptions of the rental units, their costs, and contact information. Area maps and public transportation information are also available.

The Mt. Zion Recreational Complex features a panoramic view of Gogebic Community College and the surrounding area. In addition to functioning as an on-campus laboratory for GCC's nationally acclaimed Ski Area Management Program, Mt. Zion serves local downhill and cross-country enthusiasts. Students and community members are encouraged to participate in various "learn-to-ski" programs during the winter season.
Mt. Zion is owned and operated by Gogebic Community College. GCC students carrying a minimum of 6 credit hours qualify for a free season's pass.
Free parking is available in all campus lots except where prohibited by signs. Parking is not permitted along roadways, on lawn areas and walkways, or in such a way that obstructs traffic. Violations are subject to ticketing or towing at the owners expense. Copies of the Campus Parking Ordinance can be obtained in the Maintenance Office. Located on the ground floor of the Carl Kleimola Technical Center.
All accidents occurring on campus must be reported to the Maintenance Office.
OFFICE OF INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT
The Office of Institutional Advancement provides a broad range of services to the college and community. The office is responsible for or participates in community affairs, governmental affairs, economic development, provision of community services (staff expertise, facilities and equipment), assisting in the development of continuing education programs, special projects, and researching and coordinating applications for grant funding, The Office of Institutional Advancement is located in the Solin Center and can be reached by telephone at 906/932-4231, extension 216.
COMMUNITY SERVICES/CONTINUING EDUCATION
This program is dedicated to the continuing development of learning experiences for people of all ages. Complementing but separate from the college's liberal arts and technical studies, community service courses are special and constantly changing. Offerings include seminars, short courses, lectures, workshops, clinics, conferences, forums and informal meetings on timely and diversified subjects led by college, community, regional and national resource people.
Varying in length from a portion of one day to several weeks, continuing education courses are geared to the interests of the group being served. Some programs are an extension and enrichment of traditional academic work. Some develop skills for occupational improvement. Others focus on a vocational interests, cultural pursuits, health and family enrichment, community life, political issues, social problems and self-improvement. All have the aim of enhancing everyday living for community residents and GCC students.
GCC provides off-campus extension courses at various sites across its service area. The Dean of Instruction, located at the main college campus, is responsible for design of academic plans and start up strategies for new course offerings, policies and procedures.
COMMUNITY USE OF FACILITIES
Gogebic Community College allows community based organizations to use its classrooms and meeting room facilities for meetings and special events which are not conflicting with instructional and college related activities. Designated meeting/conference rooms are located in the David G. Lindquist Student Center, the Erickson Academic Center and Solin Business Education Center. Room capacities accommodate groups of varying size up to 200+ individuals. The college, upon request, can also provide audio visual equipment and catering service.
