Tim Kolesar

Board Member



Mr. Kolesar was elected to the Board of Trustees at Gogebic Community College in 2004 and reelected in 2010 and 2016. Mr. Kolesar was born and raised locally graduating from Luther L. Wright High School in 1972. He continued his education at Gogebic Community College receiving an Associate of Science degree before transferring to Northern Michigan University (NMU) where he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, Marketing and Management in 1977. In 1987, he received a Master of Art in Education Administration also at NMU.   

Mr. Kolesar began his 35-year career in education at Luther L. Wright High School in 1978. He taught various subjects and served in various capacities with the district including: Assistant High School Football Coach, Freshman Basketball Coach, Head Girls Track Coach and Head Wrestling Coach. From 1987-1999, Mr. Kolesar served as the Assistant Principal and High School Principal from 1999-2010. During his tenure, he also served as the Athletic Director for ten years. In 1996-97, Mr. Kolesar was named Assistant Principal of the Year in the Upper Peninsula Principals Association. In 2010, he became the Superintendent of Ironwood Area Schools until his retirement on July 1, 2018.  

Mr. Kolesar is currently a member of the Ironwood Rotary Club, President of the Ironwood Area Scholarship Foundation, Ironwood Red Devil Booster Club, Board member of the Ironwood Area Sports Hall of Fame and current President. Positions formerly held by Kolesar include: Polar Bear Hockey Club Coach and Board of Directors, National Ski Patrol Member, Ironwood Little League Coach, Gogebic Range United Way Board of Directors, volunteer coach for all 5th grade girls basketball and Penokee Range Girls Softball Coach.

Mr. Kolesar and his wife Megan have two children: Timothy and Maighlin. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, camping, biking, weight lifting, carpentry, skiing (downhill and cross country), tennis, golf and watching athletic events.
