Medicine

NATURE OF THE WORK

Physicians examine patients, obtain medical histories, and order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests. They diagnose illnesses and prescribe and administer treatment for people suffering from injury or disease. Physicians counsel patients on diet, hygiene, and preventative health care. Those in private practices may handle or oversee the business aspects of running an office.

Most M.D.'s specialize in medical, surgical, or other specialties.
