Gogebic Community College has been recognized as Efficiency Unitedís Small Customer of the Year award winner in the Xcel Energy Utility territory. The College received the award at the Efficiency United 1st Annual Commercial and Industrial Energy Conference in Harris, MI.
GCC recently completed the performance contract on energy upgrades and reduction efforts. Some of the energy reduction efforts include: replaced all boilers with energy efficient ones, updated all lighting fixtures on campus, installed water conservation equipment in the restrooms, installed energy recovery ventilation units, a pool cover, and installed solar hot water heating devices and instantaneous hot water heaters, in addition to, numerous other energy saving devices that were installed across campus.
The college realized a savings of $57,519 over a 12 month period because of the energy upgrades. This entire project was funded through a performance contract with Gogebic Range Bank of Ironwood.
