Director of Medical Assistant Program

The program director will serve as the lead faculty for the program in curriculum development and instructional advancement in the field of medical assisting. Additionally, the program director will be responsible for coordinating efforts to establish a CMA program on the Copper Country Campus. Once established, the program director will be responsible for coordinating the maintenance of the program on the Houghton campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess the instructional needs of students in the program and coordinate the development of a plan to address these needs.
  • Coordinate course and clinical scheduling for both faculty and students.
  • Identify and recruit qualified faculty for the program.
  • Oversee faculty in the program.
  • Maintain appropriate contact and meet requirements of accrediting agencies.
  • Maintain quality assurance to remain compliant with all required agencies.
  • Prepare on-site annual reviews by accrediting agencies.
  • Prepare quarterly and/or annual reports and extensive self-study.
  • Recruit and secure clinical sites.
  • Prepare clinical contracts and obtain qualified preceptors at each clinical facility.
  • Recruit and maintain members of the program Advisory Committee from the community.
  • Advise and orient medical assistant students.
  • Maintain CMA Program and Practicum Handbooks.
  • Provide orientation for the on-site practicum supervisors.
  • Provide oversight of the practicum experience.
  • Provide on-site assessment of student experiences and the quality of learning opportunities at least once during each term students are assigned to the practicum site.
  • Provide practicum preparedness to assure students have appropriate equipment, supplies and space.
  • Inventory/Ordering.
  • Program Review (per college policy).

Required Qualifications:

An Associate's Degree Medical Assisting or a health related field.
Instruction in educational theory and techniques.
Credentialed in good standing in Medical Assisting by an institution whose credentialing exam is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the American National Standards Institute, or be willing to obtain the credential by June 30, 2017.
A minimum of three years of employment in a healthcare facility, including a minimum of 160 hours in an ambulatory healthcare setting performing or observing administrative and clinical procedures as performed by medical assistants.
Have a minimum of one year teaching experience in postsecondary and/or vocational/technical education.
Valid Driver's License.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions and regularly works near video display. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Electrical Line Mechanic Certificate Program/Commercial Driver's License - Full-time Faculty

Gogebic Community College seeks a full-time faculty member to be the primary instructor for a 32-credit Electrical Line Mechanic (ELM) Certificate Program and to provide instruction to a Commercial Driver's License Curriculum at Gogebic Community College (GCC). Our ELM program is a one-year certificate program offered over fall and spring academic semesters.

This position offers a unique opportunity for the right candidate to lead our program in to a renewed and promising future. The successful candidate should not only have strong instructional skill-set, but he or she should also be willing and able to help develop and implement a sustainable future vision for the program. We are a school passionate about student success and seek a candidate who shares our belief in having top-notch quality programs for our students. GCC is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certificate in Electrical Lineman Technology, Associate's degree preferred in a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Qualifications as a Safety Trainer.
  • The ability and know-how to work with students of varying ages and backgrounds.
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License.
  • Three years driving and one year as driver trainer.
  • Excellent driving record.
  • Comply with Part 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of DOT, state, and federal laws and regulations related to truck drivers, driving safety, and health practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of work experience as a supervisor in the line-worker profession.
  • Two years of experience as a trainer in a line-worker training program and commercial driver's license program/preparation program.
  • An understanding of the community college philosophy and mission.
  • Previous teaching experience at the community college level.
  • Familiarity with course development/curriculum processes.
  • Literacy in word-processing, spreadsheet and presentation software (i.e. Microsoft Office) desirable.
  • Substation and system operation experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Mathematical Skills - Ability to perform basic math computations including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and averaging all units of measure. Ability to compute fractions, percentages, and decimals.
  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems and manage conflict effectively and appropriately.
  • Computer Skills - Skill in the use of computers, MS Office Suite, and commitment to use of technology in instruction.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including day, evening, and weekend hours at multiple sites.
